TRANSLATION SHIFTS AND EQUIVALENCE STRATEGY PRODUCED BY INSTAGRAM MACHINE TRANSLATION

The fast advancement of technology forces people to use it simplify their lives. In the translation field, besides human translator, there is also machine translator used help in transferring meaning a text from source language (SL) target (TL). Along with development and social media, Instagram as one most famous media platforms launched Machine Translation 2016 that can translate captions comments posted by users. This study was conducted identify types shift equivalence performed translating on @instagram account English Indonesian. By using descriptive qualitative method reach goals study, appropriate data were obtained. analyzed based shifts theory Catford (1965) Nida (1964). findings showed all Catford’s found process common type structure shift. It successful message SL TL equivalently.
